Libondo Project - Offshore Congo
SUBSEA POWER CABLE FOR THE LIBONDO FIELD PROJECT
Total E&P’s Libondo field lies offshore Congo in West Africa. Libondo is a satellite of the Yanga field, one of the many new developments in this region. Libondo, set in around 110m of water, consists of wellhead platforms tied back to production facilities.
JDR was contracted by Saipem to supply a 13.4km SPC to link the LB1 and KOF1 wellhead platforms. The complete SPC was delivered early in 2010 and loaded directly to an installation support vessel from JDR’s quayside manufacturing facility in Hartlepool on the UK’s north east coast.
The Libondo project presented installation challenges posed by the seabed topography. These challenges were ideally suited to JDR’s considerable expertise in engineering and design.
Libondo drew on JDR’s full resources, from research and development, through feasibility studies, proving and testing to installation and life of field support.
Mechanical Data - Custom-Engineered Armouring Protection
A single layer of 5mm galvanised steel wire is helically applied over the armour bedding to provide strength and protection during cable lay and retrieval. JDR pay particular attention to detail, offering the most appropriate grade of wire for the proposed tensile strength applied during installation.
The Libondo subsea power cable route crosses rocky sections of seabed, demanding additional cable protection. JDR applied a further two layers of contra-helical torsionally balanced 5mm armour wires over the single layer in two separate areas totalling over 3km in length.
