EXPERIENCED LEADERSHIP

JDRs Senior Management team bring a combined wealth of business management and engineering excellence to the Group and have positioned JDR for continued growth through innovative product development and expanded service offerings.

Patrick Phelan, (Managing Director, JDR Cable Systems Ltd)

Patrick Phelan was recruited as MD of JDR Cable Systems Ltd, in Cambridgeshire, to drive through new developments shortly after the group was re-organised eight years ago. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA and had been an MD for eight years before joining the company. He has presided over a period of massive growth and change in the company, which has 40 years’ experience in its sector.

The Cambridgeshire unit is headquarters of the group’s Subsea Power Cables and Umbilical Systems division, which has facilities in the UK, Houston, and in Sattahip, Thailand. These three sites are specialists in the production and supply of subsea cables and umbilical systems to the Oil and Gas and renewable energy markets.

Patrick was recently awarded the prestigious accolade of Businessman of the Year (read more).

Pat Herbert, (Group CEO, JDR Cable Systems (Holdings) Ltd)
Pat is a 31 year veteran in the oil & gas industry.  He began his career in 1976 at Smith International Inc. where he spent 12 years in senior executive positions with global P&L responsibility becoming an Officer of the corporation in 1986. In 1988 he joined Baker Hughes Incorporated where he was a division president before moving to the corporate level as an officer responsible for market and technology development, and other corporate governance duties such as mergers and acquisitions and served as the senior officer over all Emerging Markets – Russia, China, Vietnam, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and corporate centers in London, Paris and The Hague.  

In 1998 he became Chairman and CEO of International Energy Services Inc. a land based seismic data acquisition and processing company in the Caspian Sea region, and merged it with a regional company making it the market leader. He created a spin-out from IESI, GeoNet Energy Services, raised $20 million of private equity capital and later merged the company in Petris Technology, staying on as COO of that entity prior to joining JDR.  

Mr. Herbert has served on many boards throughout his career; he recently completed a six year term on the University of St. Thomas Board of Directors, where he was Chairman of the Student Affairs Committee and on the advisory board of Ensyn Petroleum which was acquired by Ivanhoe Energy.  He is currently a director of Scorpion Offshore Ltd., Chairman of Blast Energy Services, traded OTC, and serves as an Advisory Board Member of Validus International. Member of the 25 Year Club of the Petroleum Industry.  

Pat received his MBA at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California and his BSE at California State University Northridge in Northridge, California. Registered PE in the State of Texas.

Alistair Mackie,
(CFO / Company Secretary, JDR Cable Systems Ltd)
Alistair joined JDR in March 2001, is responsible for group wide financial control, treasury, audit, tax, insurance, bank and shareholder relations. Alistair has restructured businesses and debt within the Group and incorporated a new subsidiary in Thailand. Alistair has also been instrumental in JDR’s M&A activities and Debt financing.

From 1988, Alistair worked with ABB as Financial Controller in its UK Transformer Division and latterly as Controller with ABB Zantingh, a CHP developer acquired in 2000. Achievements with ABB included managing a Baan ERP implementation and integrating Zantingh into the Group.   Alistair began his career with the Courtaulds Group and has also worked for General Instruments and Highland Electronics PLC.   Alistair graduated, 1980, MA (Hons) from Aberdeen University and is an associate of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

Han van Veen, (Managing Director, JDR Marine Cables BV)
Han van Veen has been responsible for the Dutch and US Marine Cables activites, developing new and improved working methods and processes and delivering state-of-the-art facilities and a world wide service team. Han’s background lies in naval engineering and plant management, providing significant experience in the construction, installation and commissioning of high performance marine equipment for the defence sector.
