Job Description

 

As a Design Engineer you will be involved in designing new cable systems. The Design Engineer specializes in developing and applying the latest technology into the cables. You have a detailed knowledge and understanding of current engineering applications, and have the practical skills and knowledge to put plans into practice.  You should be able to understand engineering drawings and principles, understand the qualities of metals and other materials, have an understanding of manufacturing processes and construction methods, have problem solving skills and be a good team player.

 

JDR are looking for a Design Engineer who can work effectively with both the rest of the design engineering team, the sales force and JDR’s customers. 

 

It is anticipated that the first year’s employment will constitute an intensive learning and training period to bring the candidate up to speed.

 

Job Qualifications

 

The applicant must have a university or very good HTS degree in one or more of the following disciplines: Electrical or mechanical Engineering.

 

Essential qualities:

• Team worker, customer awareness, innovation, ability to learn.
• Innovation is the most sought after characteristic and candidates must be able to demonstrate these capabilities.
• Fluent written and spoken English is a must.

Desirable qualities:

• Problem solving, able to cope with the fast pace of work, organized, efficient.
• Any previous experience with high or low Voltage power cables, terminations, steel cables, fibre optics or signal cables will give a definite advantage.
• Experience in design with Solid works is beneficial.
