FAIRINGS
Towing cables through the water may result in vibration (strumming) and uncontrolled movement (kiting). The cable itself also gives a certain resistance (drag). In order to control these phenomena and to enhance efficiency, JDR can provide fairings. Fairing of a cable will help to address these effects by producing a controlled shedding of the vortices and reducing turbulence.

The fairing is composed of a high tenacity polyester braid of hairs which is applied to the cable. To enhance durability and the life of the cable, customer specific compositions of fibers can be used. Fairings can be applied on both new and existing cables without removing terminations.

Hard and semi-hard fairings can be applied when drag reduction is required. These fairings are wing-shaped and create an ideal hydrodynamic profile for the cable, which reduces the resistance in water. This reduction allows for savings on the tow vessel's fuel consumption and enables to tow deeper at higher tow speeds.

We have a wealth of experience on both fairing products and applications and we would be glad to advise on how to improve your system.
