IWOCS services for a deepwater project in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM)

JDR secures multi-million-dollar contract with a major operator in the Gulf of Mexico to supply and service IWOCS

JDR, the global subsea cable supplier and servicer, in 2020 has secured a multi-million dollar contract with a major operator in the Gulf of Mexico through a competitive tender to supply IWOCS services for a deepwater project in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM).

The contract, which commenced in February of this year, included the supply, installation, and maintenance of the optical electrical downlines and integrated fiber optic conduits for eight wells, as well as IWOCS Umbilicals, umbilical termination units, safety systems and hydraulic power units (HPU).

The deepwater project requires additional technological specifications to endure extensive deep-water pressures, which JDR will provide.

Chris Norman, Project Manager at JDR, commented, “Providing the full IWOCS suite for a major deepwater project along with providing the essential equipment for the emerging technologies employed in this field show that we (JDR) can and will provide the people, technology, and equipment required by our clients.  We are fortunate to be able to work with major operators in the Gulf of Mexico that allows us to demonstrate our capabilities in full.”

A team of six field service technicians, as well as JDR’s senior IWOCS project manager, Chris Norman, will be supplied by JDR with the scope of work divided into three major components:

Suite one: controlling and testing the subsea ‘trees’ as they are installed. JDR will deploy IWOCS using its single wire deployment. This will provide for the subsea interface with the tree and allow testing and subsea control of the equipment.

Suite two: to install and control each of the wells’ completion landing strings using IWOCS and JDR’s new next generation reeler that is 26% lighter than previous versions.

Suite three: will be to provide optical electrical downlines and integrated fiber optic conduits to each well. This will then be used to gather data that has previously been untapped, helping to boost and harness the newly available data to optimize operations for the project.

Billy Pierce, Americas Services Account Manager at JDR, commented, “This is a great step in JDR’s relationship with major operators, and combined modern design approach with optimal technological solutions. “We have full confidence in our personnel and technology to help this major operator achieve their goals. Our US business is rapidly expanding, and this marks another exciting part of its journey.”

The IWOCS, winches, OEDL’s, HPU’s, flying leads, and other equipment will be supplied by JDR’s US Houston facilities.
