JDR, a leading provider of technology connecting the global offshore energy industry, has taken top honours at the Hartlepool Business Awards as the 2014 Business of the Year. This accolade was in addition to JDR’s win as Manufacturer of the Year and recognition as runner-up in the Export category
The Hartlepool Business Awards, supported by the Hartlepool Business Forum, acknowledges the achievements of local businesses across a wide range of categories, with category winners going forwards to the Business of the Year Award.
The Manufacturer of the Year Award recognises JDR’s achievements in creating a world-class manufacturing facility at Victoria Dock in Hartlepool, which now employs over 160 people. From this facility JDR manufactures subsea production umbilicals, subsea power cables and inter-array cables for offshore oil, gas and renewable energy production. Work on JDR’s Hartlepool factory started in 2008, with the first product rolling out in 2009.
Ongoing investment, of over £35m, has enabled JDR to add important new product lines and enter new markets. Over 80% of the products JDR produces in Hartlepool are for export markets from Northern Europe to Africa, the Middle East Asia and Australia, hence JDR’s success as runner-up in the Export Award category. JDR’s success in export markets was also recognised with a 2014 Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade.
Don Rosie, JDR’s Operations Director in Hartlepool commented: “We are absolutely delighted to be chosen as overall Business of the Year winner. Our Hartlepool team has worked incredibly hard to build a world-class manufacturing facility, producing products that enable JDR to compete alongside major international businesses. We have won this against a strong line-up of companies.”
