JDR TO PRESENT AT SUBSEA UK
:
JDR will present a paper on the Wave Hub project at Subsea UK on Wednesday the 9th of February at 2.25 in room Gordon A, Parallel session B, Aberdeen Convention Centre.
The presentation titled “Vital Connections for a Ground Breaking Wave Energy Project” will be given by Peter Worrall, Technical Director, Subsea Power Cables, JDR Cable Systems Ltd.
JDR is also pleased to exhibit at Subsea UK on the 8th and 9th of February, stand B12 at the Aberdeen Convention Centre
About the project:
Wave Hub consists of a large ‘socket’ on the seabed connected to the national grid on shore by an underwater cable, into which wave energy devices can be ‘plugged’ and tested on a scale not seen anywhere before. The project has four berths available and a capacity of 20MW, equivalent to the electricity needs of more than 7,000 homes.
JDR designed and manufactured the entire system, including the armoured 25 km (16 mile) 33kV cable and hub assembly for Wave Hub. The cable weighed 1,300 tonnes. The hub sits on the seabed and splits the main cable linking it to the National Grid on shore into four 300m cables to which groups of wave energy devices can be attached and monitored for how they perform.
