JDR to showcase its leadership in Inter-Array Cables at Offshore Wind 2013
: 3 June 2013: At Offshore Wind 2013 JDR will showcase its full range of capabilities for wind energy generation from its Inter-Array Power Cables to full lifecycle project support. This event follows a recent Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) announcement of funding for new JDR research into high voltage array cabling that will help make offshore wind a more cost-effective and competitive source of power and support the future growth of the industry.
Offshore Wind 2013 takes place from 12 to 13 June in Manchester (UK) at the Manchester Central Convention Complex. JDR will be exhibiting at stand number 139.
JDR’s engineering team has led the development of inter-array cables for offshore wind operators through their understanding of the key development challenges in medium voltage dynamic and static products. The team’s track record includes the new 80-turbine Meerwind Sud/Ost offshore wind farm, plus London Array and Greater Gabbard, the world’s two largest offshore wind farms to date. JDR’s experience also includes the first offshore 5MW turbine demonstrator cable for the Beatrice wind farm project in the Scottish North Sea, the world’s deepest water offshore wind farm, and the first offshore 6MW turbine cable for the Gunfleet Sands wind farm extension. JDR’s Inter-Array Cables are produced at an advanced, high volume manufacturing facility, alongside a deep water UK east coast sea facing port.
JDR supports offshore wind operators with a range of accessories and services, including its in-house designed Repair Joint. This Repair Joint is the most qualified in the market and can be installed in the field by JDR’s in-house team of field technicians, part of the Group’s Aftermarket, Installation and Maintenance Services (AIMS). AIMS support customers from project installation to pre-commissioning with full product lifecycle support. A combined approach maximises investment in a JDR product and supports clients in lowering the total lifetime cost of equipment ownership.
Andrew Norman, JDR’s CEO commented: “JDR has become a global leader in the development of Inter-Array Power Cables for offshore wind, wave and tidal energy projects. We have embraced the growing international market for alternative and sustainable energy delivery. Now, with the support of a UK government grant, JDR is developing the next generation of high voltage cables. We are committed to enabling the next generation of wind power projects to deliver cost-effective renewable energy, using the latest developments in cable technology and manufacture.”
