JDR Umbilical Systems is expanding its footprint in the rapidly growing Asian Pacific region by garnering substantial contracts to provide umbilicals to three of Australia’s prominent oil and gas producers: Apache Energy Ltd., Coogee Resources and Anzon Australia Ltd.

The contracts demonstrate JDR Umbilicals’ growing presence in the highly productive Australian oil fields. The Asian Pacific region, which JDR services via its facility in Thailand, is the fastest growing subsea market in the world. In just three contracts, JDR will deliver nearly 50 km (totalling approximately 29 miles) of umbilicals to service Australia’s strong oil and natural gas industry.

In the northwest shelf of Australia, Apache Energy Ltd., a developer and producer of natural gas, crude oil and natural gas liquids, has solicited JDR’s Asia Pacific facility to provide three umbilicals for the Van Gogh oil field. Under the terms of the agreement, JDR will deliver approximately 6 km (3.75 miles) of umbilicals, due for installation in 2008.

The Van Gogh oil field, a $500 million-dollar Apache development located in Western Australia’s Exmouth Sub-basin, consists of a floating production, storage and offloading system (FPSO) and subsea trees. In evaluating Apache’s project needs, JDR gave special consideration to the dynamic portion of the riser umbilical due to the unique requirements dictated by the inclement conditions.

Also in Australia, Coogee Resources has awarded JDR with a contract to provide umbilicals for the Montara, Swift and Skua oil field developments in the Timor Sea. JDR’s Asia Pacific facility plans to complete the supply of the four umbilicals, totalling over 30 km (18.6 miles) length, in 2008.

The Montara development project is the first greenfield development undertaken by Coogee and comprises an FPSO, a wellhead platform, subsea trees and a subsea manifold. The umbilical components include thermoplastic hoses for hydraulic and chemical duty, as well as 3.6 kV electric power cores and fiber optic cables.

In addition to JDR’s contract with Apache and Coogee Resources in Australia, the company has also been tapped to provide 8.8km (5.5 miles) of umbilicals to AGR Asia Pacific Pty Ltd. for the Basker Manta oil field, located in Bass Strait, Australia, in the southeast corner of the continent. Basker Manta is owned by Anzon Australia Ltd., and the supply represents part of the second phase of its development. JDR will fulfil its commitment to AGR Asia Pacific PtyLtd by supplying three umbilicals in 2008.

The Basker Manta field consists of subsea trees and a manifold already in place due to a previously existing FPSO facility. Included within the scope of the project were a number of umbilical termination assemblies (UTAs) and flying leads, giving the client a full subsea umbilical package.
