PATRICK PHELAN NAMED BUSINESSMAN OF THE YEAR

The Cambridge News has named Patrick Phelan, managing director, JDR Cable Systems Ltd., Businessman of the Year during their annual Awards Ceremony held at the prestigious King’s College in Cambridge, England.
The Business Excellence Awards recognises those in the business community who have demonstrated significant leadership, dedication and service throughout the year.
“It is a distinct honour for the JDR group in having Patrick acknowledged by his peers in the business community,” says Pat Herbert, CEO, JDR Cable Systems (Holdings) Ltd. “We are very pleased that Patrick has been recognised for the leadership he has clearly demonstrated and we congratulate him on this fine achievement. Patrick’s contributions to the company have been instrumental in extending our geographical reach, delivering high quality products and mapping out a continuous growth strategy.”
A key part of that strategy has been opening a quayside facility in Thailand that has since allowed the company to dominate the Asia Pacific market. That expansion has, in turn, increased demand on the capacity in Littleport making further expansion in the UK inevitable. Accordingly, JDR is now in the process of establishing a quayside location in Hartlepool to serve the growing renewable energy markets in Europe and enhance our support to oil and gas customers, delivering larger products for new ventures in deeper waters offshore.
Herbert continues, “Patrick is a key asset to our management team. As JDR continually seeks out new opportunities in the UK and worldwide to remain ahead of our competition, it can be a challenge to find true leaders at all levels of management who can deliver. JDR has clearly met that challenge. “
